The Rev. Jeffrey K. Hood, a Baptist pastor from Texas, is arrested in front of the White House during an immigration protest that also included faith leaders from the United Methodist Church, Catholics, Unitarian Universalists, Quakers, Jews, and others. Although the faith leaders cooperated with U.S. Park Police and notified them in advance of the peaceable protest and their intention to be arrested, the police response included a military-style “BearCat” armored personnel carrier, seen in the background. Police use of such equipment in Ferguson, Missouri, and other locations has brought criticism that American police forces are increasingly “militarized.”
